Under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, CEO and Chairman of the Emirates Group, The British University in Dubai celebrated the graduation of its 13th cohort of PhD and Masters graduates.

The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, congratulated the graduates and said: “The British University in Dubai marks today another milestone in its development. We are very proud to see another cohort of our graduates walk across the stage and join the growing community of our alumni in Dubai and the region. These are our young graduates on whom we rely to disseminate knowledge and science in our society and to grow our economy. This number of graduates is yet another testament to BUiD’s commitment and dedication to spreading the culture of research in the UAE.”

The ceremony was held on 19 December 2018 at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar in the presence of the University’s Council members, members of faculty and staff, and the relatives and friends of the graduates. 37 doctorate and 220 Master holders have graduated making it the largest cohort of graduating students in the history of the University, by both numbers and diversity of specialisations. For the first time, the University marked its first PhD graduates in Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment, in addition to Project Management, Education, Computer Science and Business.

The University’s Council member, Mr John Martin St.Valery, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the British Business Group of Dubai and the Northern Emirates, gave the keynote speech at the ceremony and said: “The British and the Emiratis have an enviable history of relations based on trust and mutual respect. What better way to further cement these important ties by sharing and collaborating to deliver the very best in education. Great British education standards fostered and developed by our Emirati hosts were the founding principles of this fine University.”

Dr. Alia Marjan Mubarak gave a speech on behalf of the graduates: “I received my Masters degree from BUiD several years ago and I have been fortunate enough to return and earn my PhD at BUiD, which is one of the leading postgraduate institutions in the UAE. I would like to share with you the most important thing that this University has taught me: never, never let yourself think that anything in this world can be stronger than you and your faith in yourself. I would like through this platform to thank the Faculty and Administrative staff for their support during my study journey.”

BUiD’s students can now receive their digitally-verified certificates whose authenticity can be verified through blockchain technology.
