Initiative comes in Year of Zayed to ‘make education more accessible’, school says.

Dubai: Global Indian International School (GIIS) in Dubai has launched a Dh10.75-million scholarship programme for students seeking admission in the 2018-2019 academic year.

In the ‘Year of Zayed’ (2018), the ‘Dubai Global Scholarships 2018’ initiative aims to make education more inclusive and accessible.

The scholarship will benefit the first 500 students enrolled for the April 2018-March 2019 academic year. Each student will be entitled to an amount of Dh21,500 of scholarship spread over the five consecutive academic years.

In the 2018-19 academic year, besides the Dh4,000 in tuition fee, Dh1,500 in the form of registration and admission fee will be adjusted as part of the scholarship. The tuition fee of Dh4,000 for next four years will also be adjusted, making the total to Dh21,500 for each of the first 500 children admitted in the 2018-19 cycle.

Abdul Latif Al Mulla, advisory board member of Global Schools, of which GIIS is a member, said: “GIIS is well aligned to the national agenda. This outreach programme is in line with the late Shaikh Zayed’s philosophy of building an inclusive society that values education.”

Ramesh Mudgal, principal of GIIS Dubai, said: “Happiness of a child is at the core of GIIS and the scholarship programme will allow deserving students to be part of GIIS leading programmes … We also honour the memory of late Shaikh Zayed who valued education as ‘the only path to a better future’.”
